# Get started

## Create and maintain parties

Use our **Parties API** to create individual parties for each one of your sellers, payers and/or beneficiaries, and to manage incoming and outgoing funds to them.

#### What is a party?

A party represents the overall record of your beneficiary (sellers, vendors, providers etc.). You can use this record to store information to perform an identity verification check, a split payment and a payout.

You can create a `party` for a:

* **person**
* **sole trader** or
* **company**
